Bedside Cot Reviews

A bedside crib (also called a bassinet) is placed close to your bed so you can safely tend to baby during night feeds and nappy changes without getting out of bed. They also help in creating independence as your little one becomes more confident in their own bed.

The Joie Roomie Glide

The Joie Roomie Glide is a bedside crib that allows parents to sleep with their infant while ensuring they're sleeping safely. The smooth gliding motion of the Joie Roomie Glide can help calm your baby, and its innovative features allow you to monitor your child without leaving your bed.

The side panel that slides out of the crib can be raised and lowered by a simple push of a single button. This makes it easy to reach inside and soothe a crying baby in the night. It also has 11 height adjustments that let it fit the mattress of almost every size bed. Additionally, it has adjustable folding feet to make sure that it's placed at just the right height.

The cot is padded, features mesh sides for better the airflow, and the mattress is made of high-density foam for added protection. It is also wipeable which means you can keep the cot clean. It is fitted with a bed sheet that is suitable for the crib.

The Roomie Glide, unlike some other bedside cribs is compatible with a wide range of beds, including divans. This is because of the straps and clips that attach to it. It can also be used as a stand-alone crib when not attached to your bed and it's packed with features designed with parent-baby bonding in mind.

It is important to remember that this crib won't last as long once your baby turns six months. You'll need to purchase a larger cot. Overall, Roanna found that the Joie Roomie Glide was a really good buy and she particularly liked its elegant design.

John Lewis sells the Roomie Glide for PS160. Roanna thought this was a reasonable price for a cot. She also liked the way it was positioned in the bedroom and believed that its grey colour will work well in modern homes. However, she pointed out that it's not an ideal idea to rock a smaller baby, as it can create the stage for bad habits that will affect later sleep patterns.

The Tutti Bambini CoZee

The Tutti Bambini CoZee is an award-winning bedside crib designed with a safe night's sleep in mind. It has a drop side rail which can be easily removed for feedings at night without having to disturb your little one or get out of bed It's perfect for mothers who are breastfeeding! It's also light and easy to move around during nap time or when traveling.

It's made of soft material and features mesh sides that are breathable to help promote airflow. It is available in charcoal or oak and a range of melange fabrics that blend with a variety of styles. Anna found it sturdy and secure when affixed to her bed, with the legs firmly snapping into place and the zips secure to ensure baby safety. It took Anna approximately 10 minutes to put together and didn't require any tools. There are clear instructions along with a video and customer service number should you experience any issues.

Alongside the usual features you'd expect from a bedside crib that include the ability to be connected to your existing bed using a stay-in-place connection system and six levels of height, the CoZee has an additional incline option that can be used to aid congestion or reflux in infants. It's also machine washable, a necessity with all the dribble, vomit and snot that comes with having a newborn!

The CoZee is a great option for keeping your child in the first six months of learning to fall asleep independently.  newborn bedside cot  can be used as a crib, changing station or toddler bed. It can even be converted into a sofa bed by the addition of an extension pack. And while it will not feed your baby or magically sleep them it will rock them to send them off!

The Chicco Next2Me Magic

This is one of Chicco's more expensive options, however it is packed with lots of features. It can be used either a side-sleeper, or a standalone crib, and is suitable for infants from birth to six months. It comes with a new mechanism to open and close the side panel, and is easy to operate, even for one-handed operation. It's also more flexible than the predecessor, with 11 different height settings as well as legs that retract to fit underneath any bed.

Our testers loved the ease of access the side panel provides, which can be flipped up and down at the touch of the button. This was a huge benefit in feedings at night because it meant they could easily reach in and take their baby away without waking them.

It is possible to lower the side panel itself, but this isn't recommended as it increases the risk that your baby will be thrown out of the cot. The patented safety locking system makes sure that the side panel will remain in place when it is attached correctly to the parent's mattress. This is a great feature to have for peace mind, especially if you're breastfeeding and require frequent nighttime feedings.

Telescopic legs permit the Chicco Next2Me Magic to be used with any bed including divan bases or beds with drawers. It also has an option to tilt for reflux babies and a rocking feature to bring them back to sleep after eating. It's also very large and has great ventilation due to its mesh sides.

Our test participants found the Next2Me Magic easy to set up and use, however it does have quite a long instruction manual. It's heavier than some of the other side-sleepers, but it's quite mobile and can be moved from room room easily. It's small enough to fit in a travel bag when not in use, which is an advantage in the event that you have to transport it. The only downside our testers found was that the side panel did not flex as much as some of the other models, which made it slightly harder to observe your child from your bed.

The Shnuggle Air

If you're in search of an ideal bedside crib that can grow with your child, then the Shnuggle Air is definitely worth a look. It's a crib for co-sleeping that can be attached securely to your bed and can be transformed into a chic cot when your baby is old enough. Ideal for feeding at night and strengthening your bond with your new born.

The Shnuggle Air crib is designed to breathe, unlike some other models. Its dual-view mesh sides and airflow mattress that is breathable and hypoallergenic maximise airflow to keep your baby cool and comfortable. A gentle incline helps to ease colic and reflux while the zip down side allows you to feed or soothe your baby during the night.

The kit for conversion to cot (sold separately) is also well-designed, with clear instructions and everything you require to get started. It took us around an hour to assemble, and was fairly simple to put together. The only downside was the lack of written captions on a few images which made it difficult to understand some of the steps. Overall, the process was simple and the materials used were of top quality.

In the co-sleeping mode, we discovered the Shnuggle Air to be an ideal choice for breastfeeding mothers and women who have had a C-section, since it allows them to easily reach out to their infant for comfort and feeding without having to get up from their own bed. It's great for parents who don't want to deal with the stress of putting their child in a traditional cot, or getting out of it.

The gliding motion was found to be very helpful in lulling babies into sleep following meals during the midday or at night. The drop-down side is also easily accessed to feed or soothe babies in the middle of the night, which was a real selling point for our exhausted test mums. The Joie Roomie Glide is a modern and stylish crib that doesn't rock, nor has extra features like the sound machine.
